The Union FC '99 Boys teams represent members in Union FC born after 9/1/2000. The Team plays in US Club sanctioned NorCal Premier in league play. The players range in age from 7 to 9 years of age. Many of the players are playing 'up' against older players in league play. We beleive that if a player is good enough, they are old enough. All of the coaches and Union FC played 'up' as youngsters.
While this can be difficult in terms of achieving favorable match results, it is, on the other hand, beneficial for the players/teams long and short term development. All players play on the same size 8 v 8 field in league play. The jump to 11 v 11 on full-size fields doesnt occur until U/11-U12. At some point in the next few years, the team may play back in their own age group so its likely that they will be playing 'up' for the next few years.
Union FC is an fully inclusive club which offers an environment for all young players who are given the best opportunity to develop their skills and joy of the game with out the pressure to win at all costs. At the youngest ages there can be very large differences in ages, size and athletic ability of players Union FC looks at the dedication and joy of playing of the player. Our goal is long term development.
Union FC believes that any player regardless of age if they show ability and dedication to the game should have the opportunity to play on an older/upper level team in order to challenge each player and provide valuable learning experiences. The Union FC philosophy is unique- All players are members of the club and not individual teams which means that younger players can guest up and then return to their own age groups to benchmark against their peers.This model, which is not unique to high level professional clubs, allows us to bring out the best in all of the players.
At Union we try to develop the players and the teams they play on. We are always looking for players who love to play, love to learn and have a passion for the game. We do require all players train at least 2 x per week and encourage players to attend the additional Monday practices at Jordan Middle School- 4 p.m- 6 p.m (cost $15 per session).
Interested in Joining The Team?
Players are required to attend a minimum of 2 practice days per week- The regular practice days are Tuesday and Thursday. There is a supplementary training day on Mondays- This is provided players are already signed up for Tuesdays.
