We are proud to see PSV Union grow from being a fledgling club with one team and a vision to becoming recognized state-wide for being a soccer club run by soccer people for soccer people and renowned for its excellence in playing style and professional coaching. Our 5 year plan to establish a legitimate organization has worked and we are improving and growing every day. Along with this growth however, comes change; change in goals, in expectations on players, coaches and parents. Managing these changes is important to the growth of the club in terms of attracting and retaining quality players and coaches. Keeping participation feeds down, providing financial scholarship assistance and providing coaches with fair compensation for their professional services comes with many challenges. Unfortunately we lose coaches every year due to lack of ample compensation vs cost of living. Last year alone we lost several coaches and have not been able to afford to hire 3 others away from their full-time employment. This dilemma is not unique to PSV Union but its something we are trying to change. Making a donation to our club fund will certainly go a long way to help solving the financial obstacles presented to us.
Each year we provide approximately $20,000 in value of scholarship assistance to players and families in need. This scholarship funding typically comes out of club fees which is collected each year from club members. We remain committed to providing financial aid for families who require assistance. Indeed we have always found a way as a club to enable every player, regardless of their financial position, to fully participate in all PSV Union activities and we are more than happy to accommodate these financial aid requests whenever possible.
To this point we have not solicited additional financial support from the teams or individuals within the club. Our club model is designed to cater for every player in the club, regardless of the team they participate on. To date we have received practically no funding. Our immediate goal as a club is to be able to provide an increase in coaching salary to the staff who have received only a slight coaching wage increase since 2003. The coaching staff currently earns 2 x less than what they would otherwise be earning outside PSV Union.
Why do coaches stay at PSV Union? For the same reasons the players do. They share the same passion and commitment to their club and their own game. The camaraderie relationships, philosophy and the convenience of a 1 club-1 field location which enables the coaches to optimize their performance, are the reasons coaches remain at PSV Union. They are also attracted to the club management model where they are considered 'club' coaches not 'team' coaches, thus enabling them to reach and impact every player in the club at various times of the year and various stages of the players career at PSV Union.
Our goal as a club is to retain the best coaches available at the most fair market value. In order to do so our goal is to raise $100,000 before December 31st, some of which will be allocated to a Boys & Girls & Academy Coaching Directors position which will enable us to grow the club and attract the top talent around.
As we approach the year end, we are seeking assistance from supporters and members.
